Clinic Veterinary Assistant (Part-Time)

The VHS is seeking a part-time Veterinary Assistant for our Low-Cost Spay/Neuter and Vaccine Clinics! Our Clinic performs more than 8,000 surgeries and wellness services every year for pets all over the community, and we are making a huge impact. Come be part of our team!

All applicants: 

• Must be able to work Fridays and Saturdays
• Must be a dependable, self-motivated individual who maintains a strong initiative to complete duties and doesn’t require a lot of direction from others
• Must be able to learn basic veterinary medical concepts and communicate those concepts
• Must have strong customer service skills
• Must be able to work well individually and as a team player
• Must be able to understand and strictly follow instructions
• Must possess strong cleaning skills and understand the importance of this in terms of disease transmission
• Must be able to humanely handle up to 60 or more animals a day and learn characteristics of animal behavior to ensure a safe environment
• Must be able to meet the heavy physical demands of the job including but not limited to standing for 8 or more hours, able to lift and carry 50 pounds multiple times a day, possess good balance and reflexes, and be able to respond quickly to a variety of medical situations
• Must be able to learn how to perform vein punctures to obtain blood samples and insert IV catheters, and administer vaccines, microchips, and medications
• Must be able to work under stressful situations efficiently and effectively and have the ability to remain calm
• Must be able to cope with death due to either surgical complications or humane euthanasia
