We do lifesaving work here at the Vanderburgh Humane Society. And while we do have more than 200 active volunteers, we have a team of more than 40 staff members who are at the core of what we do.   • Animal Care Technician (Full-Time)

    The Vanderburgh Humane Society is seeking dependable, hardworking animal lovers who can join our team as Animal Care Technicians. This position involves daily interaction with homeless animals who are often experiencing the most stressful time in their lives. Our Animal Care Techs are their primary source of the reassurance, love, and interaction they need to make their stay with us as comfortable as possible.

    Job Description:

    • Hands-on animal care & kennel/cage cleaning (including scooping feces and cleaning up other bodily fluids like urine & mucous)
    • Repetitive bending
    • Scrubbing
    • Daily exposure to corrosive cleaning and disinfecting agents (protective wear provided)
    • Daily time spent outdoors with dogs for up to 2 hours at a time in all weather conditions 365 days a year including excessive heat, cold, snow, and ice
    • Exposure to, and controlled handling of, various species of animals including:
      • Dogs of all sizes, breeds, strengths, and energy levels
      • Cats
      • Rabbits
      • Reptiles
      • Other small & exotic animals including (but not limited to) pocket pets, birds, and potbellied pigs 


    • DEPENDABILITY! If you regularly call in to work, you need not apply.

    • 8:00 am - 4:30 pm, 5 days a week
    • 40 hours weekly
    • 30 minute lunch (unpaid) and two 15-minute breaks (paid)
    • Weekends may be required. This is non-negotiable. Holidays worked are chosen based on seniority. (The animals still need food, water, and love, even on Christmas morning!)
    • Hours may sometimes vary, must be flexible.

    OPEN WORKING INTERVIEWS will be held Wednesday, Septemeber 29 and Thursday, September 30, 2021. Walk-ins welcome, no prior contact or appointment required.

    This will be a working interview. Please arrive at 8:30 am to fill out an application. Working interview will begin promptly at 9:00 am and conclude at 1:00 pm (4-hour time commitment).

    Please wear comfortable clothing that you don't mind getting dirty and close-toed shoes. Shoes may get wet. Feel free to bring rubber boots if you have some!
