River Kitty Cat Cafe in downtown Evansville is now a nonprofit program of the Vanderburgh Humane Society!
CORONAVIRUS UPDATE: Due to CFC recommendations and Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb's recent mandate regarding bars & restaurants, River Kitty will be closed for cat visits and in-house dining until further notice. HOWEVER, we are still open for carry-out! Visit us Tuesday-Sunday with limited hours to help support the VHS' mission!
Approximately 16 of our adoptable adult cats call Main Street their home at any given time.
River Kitty opened in July 2017 with a resounding success. It began as a for-profit business venture from two local cat lovers, Nancy & Annette, who chose the VHS as the cat adoption partner. River Kitty celebrated their 100th adoption in May 2018, and since then they have already surpassed #400! This adoption partnership has been a game-changer for VHS cats and vital in our lifesaving mission.
Approximately 16 adoptable VHS cats call Main Street their home at any given time. They live at the cafe until they find homes.
In 2019, Annette & Nancy approached the VHS about selling River Kitty to focus on other endeavors in their personal lives. They were hopeful that the cafe could be transferred under VHS ownership. That dream became a reality in November 2019. Since then, all proceeds from the cafe now benefit the animals of the VHS.
Evansville's cat cafe is located at 226 Main Street downtown. The menu includes macarons, coffee, tea, wine & beer with a carry-out license, and healthy smoothies. We also offer special events like birthday parties, yoga + cats, feline painting parties, and more. Find out details and make a reservation for the Cat Lounge on the River Kitty website. Also follow the shenanigans of the cats on Facebook and Instagram!
