Description: Froggie is a fun-loving young dog. He wants to play with everyone. He has not met a person or pet he didn't want to engage in play. Froggie learns the play style of other dogs and submits to them. With a small puppy and a cat in his foster home, he soft mouths and plays gently. With a big dog who visits often and is sometimes testy, Froggie submits and plays to the other dog's style. With the Boxer in his foster home, he plays like crazy. He plays fetch and tug with his people and loves to cuddle up across a lap. Froggie is a goofy, often clumsy boy. He keeps is foster family laughing. This boy came to us as a vastly underweight adolescent pup. We soon saw why he was underweight as he had a bout of illness. Blood work showed his pancreatic enzymes were elevated. Froggie started on a low fat diet and quickly improved. He must not eat anything high in fat. He loves his low-fat dog food. He gets ice cubes for a treat, so this is not much of a flaw. He is now flourishing on a non-prescription low fat food. He has filled out and even grown in height since joining his foster family. His feet are a bit hyper extended, thus his name. They give him that goofy, clumsy manner. Don't let those feet fool you though, he is not fond of water. He behaves well in the bath, but reluctantly. He avoids the garden hose when flowers are being watered. His foster sister seems to baffle him as she jumps in the spray. When Froggie sleeps, his cheek often puffs with his breath, also adding to the Froggie persona. Froggie joined us with no proper manners, but a huge desire to please. He now promptly follows the cues to "sit, "down, "stay, "come, and "leave it. Although tall, he leaves things on the counters and tables alone. He is house trained and rings a bell to go outside. He may redistribute garments if left on the floor, but stays calmly in his crate when home alone. This ensures no boredom chewing occurs. He loves his Nylabones, squeaky toys, and rope tugs. Froggie is accustomed to a yard with a 4ft chain-link fence. Unfortunately, his leash manners need a little work until he gets in the rhythm. Froggie would love a home with another young, playful dog or children to play with him. He has plenty of energy and joy! Due to his dietary restrictions and the deep love his foster parents have for him, he will not be found in the adoption kennels. He will be brought to the VHS for meet and greet when a potential adopter is identified. One of the adoption counselors will call applicants and set up a time for Froggie to be at the shelter to meet you.
