Governance & Financial Information

Founded in 1957, the Vanderburgh Humane Society has provided services and programs to the people and animals of the Tri-State for more than 65 years. The organization has adopted policies and procedures to protect the animals in our care and the donors who make our work possible.

As a 501(c) 3 tax exempt organization, the Vanderburgh Humane Society (VHS) relies heavily on donations to support the variety of programs offered to the community, many of which are offered free of charge. We do not receive guaranteed financial support from the government, local taxes, United Way, or the Humane Society of the United States. When we do sometimes receive grants from some national organizations shown below, it is typically by way of a competitive grant process and the funding is often restricted to specific programs.

We are proud to be ranked as highly as possible on Candid and Charity Navigator, with a Platinum Seal of Transparency and a 4-star rating respectively.
