Adopting a Dog
The Vanderburgh Humane Society does not sell dogs. Our dogs are placed for adoption, and as with any adoption, you become responsible for this pet for the remainder of its life. Pet ownership is rewarding, but it is also a serious responsibility, therefore potential adopters, must first fill out an application and deliver it to the VHS during our adoption hours in order to adopt an animal from the VHS. We will not hold a dog for any reason.
Please browse the listing of dogs below or you may use the VHS PET FINDER to find the right dog for you!

VHS Adoption Guarantee: It is always important to the VHS to ensure that our animals find permanent homes. We encourage adopters to spend as much time with the animal as possible before taking them home. Adopters are welcome to bring in children or pets to determine compatibility. Our adoption counselors are trained to help you find the best match.
If at any time during the next 14 calendar days, beginning with the day of adoption, there is a problem with your new pet, you may return the pet for a refund of half of the adoption fee paid. If you adopted more than one animal and received a discount on the second animal, the refund will be half of the lesser adoption fee paid.
If you are returning an animal within the 14 days for a health reason pertaining to the animal, you may be entitled to a full refund if the return is accompanied by a letter from your veterinarian stating the problem.
